What is a CVV/CSC/CID?
Card Verification Value (CVV) also known as Card Security Code (CSC) or Card Identification Digit (CID) is an additional security feature for web based payments.
The “Card Identification Digits” can be either three or four digits in length depending on the card issuer. Typically they appear on the card as shown below.

On an American Express Card, however, there is a 4 digit number on the front of the card. Supplying the CVV code in a transaction is for your protection as it helps to verify that you have the card in your possession.
