Nature and Environment

Hayman is a unique continental island, ideally located in the magnificent Great Barrier Reef and Whitsunday Islands. Situated on the southerly palm-fringed shore of the island, the resort is fronted
by a sweeping beach and surrounded by lush tropical gardens. Beyond the beach, an 800 metre wide sand flat with fringing coral reef hosts a stunning array of coral formations and marine life and the island’s crystal clear aquamarine waters are a spectacular kaleidoscope of tropical fish.

Hayman's diverse flora and fauna offer fascinating wilderness experiences for resort guests with unique plant species and abundant wildlife including White Cockatoos, Painted Lorikeets, Kookaburras, and Herons. Colonies of endangered Proserpine Rock Wallabies also inhabit the island and are part of an ongoing breeding program in conjunction with Queensland Parks and Wildlife.

The beautifully designed resort landscape blends exquisite manicured gardens with rugged bushland and tropical canopies, offering guests ideal opportunities for nature walks or tranquil strolls to scenic lookouts and pristine white sand beaches.

CLIMATE

Hayman guests enjoy a beautiful tropical climate, year-round swimming and a breezy, relaxed ambience. The weather is warm and balmy throughout the year, with January traditionally the hottest month and July the coolest. The winter months offer beautiful days with only a light jacket or sweater normally required during the evenings.

CARING FOR THE ENVIRONMENT

Since its earliest days, Hayman has been linked to scientific exploration of the area’s marine environment. The preservation of the fragile ecosystem and the conservation of terrestrial species underpin many of Hayman’s operational and corporate philosophies. The island maintains close working relationships with the Great Barrier Reef Marine Park Authority and the Environmental Protection Agency which share responsibility for the area’s care. The resort offers guests a range
of environmentally-friendly activities that enable them to explore and appreciate the unique natural surrounds.

ZOOX™Fund

Hayman is proud of its ongoing commitment to the ZooX™ Fund through its parent company Mulpha Australia Limited. Mulpha was an inaugural patron of the fund – a critically important initiative of the Great Barrier Reef Foundation (GBRF) to assist marine scientists in carrying out vital research to help protect Australia's greatest natural wonder from the ravages of climate change and other environmental threats.Hayman invites guests on the island to contribute to the ZooX™ Fund via an evening room levy.

NATURALLY HAYMAN

Hayman’s stunning new ‘green book’, Naturally Hayman, showcases the island’s unique natural settings and world heritage listed surrounds. Written by Chantal Dunbar, author of the acclaimed Hayman ‘blue book’, and containing beautiful illustrations, Naturally Hayman is an ideal memento
