Naturally Hayman

Hayman's stunning ‘green book’, Naturally Hayman, showcases the island’s unique setting and world heritage listed surrounds.

This visually rich publication highlights all of the natural qualities of Hayman, offering an insight into the magnificent environment in which Hayman is beautifully positioned.

One of the world’s premier private island destinations and continually acknowledged as Best in Australia, Hayman offers guests a front yard of unpopulated islands, while in its back yard can be found one of the original seven natural wonders of the world; the glorious Great Barrier Reef.

The island has a compelling story of its own, including its setting as a conservation haven for the endangered Proserpine Rock Wallaby. Although these endearing little creatures face extinction on the mainland, they have found Hayman to be a favourable island ark. So successful have efforts been by Queensland Parks and Wildlife and Hayman that the small breeding population of less than a dozen animals now numbers closer to 100.

The island’s mountainous terrain is cloaked in dry forest and its coastline laced with fringing coral gardens. From the hiking trails, spinner dolphins, minke whales and migrating humpback whales can be seen.

Soaring above, the wedge tailed eagle puts the air currents to good use as it hunts for prey. Turtles frequently pop their heads above the surface and, in season, the whale song can be heard by swimmers.

Superbly written by Chantal Dunbar - author of the popular Hayman Great Barrier Reef ‘blue book’ - and beautifully illustrated, Naturally Hayman takes readers on a journey that describes the magnificence of the wildlife and the importance of preserving this fragile environment for generations to come.
