Beach Boxing
November 11, 2011
There aren’t many better ways to begin a day than with a boxing session on Hayman Beach.
Fitness Instructor Carrieann Marriott, who runs morning boxing sessions on Hayman, agrees, “Boxing on the beach is fantastic, you can take your shoes off and feel the sand between your toes, and if you get too hot, we can even box in the water.”
A typical boxing session usually consists of a series of hooks, jabs, uppercuts and a variety of other exercises in between. However, Carrieann tailors classes to meet an individual’s needs.
“Boxing is a great work out for your whole body. It’s good for muscle toning, strength, fitness and agility. It’s even good for your balance, especially when you do it on the beach. The uneven surface provides even more of a challenge.”
It feels good to exercise and it’s even better doing it in one of the most beautiful places in the world.
“When I see someone feeling the pain, I just tell them to look out at the view,” Carrieann explains.
I’m not convinced a view of the idyllic Coral Sea will take away the pain of a grueling boxing session… but it can’t hurt!
